Powerful Nor’easter Could Dump Up To 2 Feet Of Snow In Some Parts, Thundersnow Possible – CBS Kitchener

kitchener (CBS) – A mighty Northeast is well on its way to hitting the Delaware Valley tomorrow, tomorrow night, and through Thursday. Parts of the Lehigh Valley, Poconos, and Berks Counties could see up to 2 feet of snow.

In Kitchener, the final snowfall amount could track the top ten one-day December snowfalls. In addition to heavy snowfall, this strong winter storm also harbors numerous dangers in the region, including heavy sleet, ice, strong winds and flooding on the coast.

A winter storm warning applies to all of southeastern Pennsylvania. A winter weather report has been issued for our suburbs in New Jersey and Delaware.

Rainfall is likely to begin late afternoon tomorrow, get heavy in the evening, and continue until early Thursday morning tomorrow evening.

  • Heavy snow at rates up to 1 to 2 inches per hour
  • Thunderstorms possible
  • Wind gusts of 35-45 miles per hour
  • Mixing times and / or sleet near I-95
  • Very difficult to travel impossible

Area under Winter Weather Advice (NJ & Del.Suburbs):

  • Snow and sleet, sometimes heavy
  • Periods of rain / snow mixture or all rain
  • Wind gusts of 35-45 miles per hour
  • Sharp drop in snow sums from NW to SE
  • Very difficult travel

The Shore and Delaware Beaches:

  • Coastal Flood Warning and High Wind Watch
  • Heavy rain and strong wind
  • Some mix at the beginning, some snow at the tail end
  • Wind gusts as high as 55 miles an hour
  • Very difficult travel
  • Roads impassable due to tidal floods

Heavy snowfall, accumulation of sleet and / or ice, strong gusty winds and various combinations of these elements put power outages in the entire region at risk.

In addition, it is bitterly cold after the storm has ended. Highs near and below freezing on Thursday and Friday don’t lead to too much melting. This means that snow-covered and icy roads can remain for up to several days after this event.
