Charles Foundation Organizes Park Cleanup, Food Giveaway To Kick Off New Year In West Kitchener – CBS Kitchener
kitchener (CBS) – A community cleanup and grocery giveaway started a new year in West Kitchener on Saturday. Eyewitness News was located on North 52nd Street and Wyalusing Avenue, where the Charles Foundation organized the service.
Former MP Movita Johnson says these events can bring the community together and help suppress gun violence. It’s an issue she’s been campaigning for since her own son was shot 10 years ago.
“We have to be proactive about gun violence. That means we give people what they need to be successful,” said Johnson. “We come out and we feed the community and we purify the community because we know that people who come out and live in dirty communities feel that their community is not valued.”
The Charles Foundation is named after Johnson’s son Charles Andre Johnson.
The organization helps those affected by armed violence.
