7 Arrested After Large Group Vandalizes Federal Buildings In Center City On New Year’s Eve, Devices Found – CBS Kitchener

kitchener (CBS / AP) – 2020 ended with some vandalism in Kitchener. A black-clad group of people destroyed at least two federal buildings in Center City on New Year’s Eve, and police said Friday they recovered Molotov cocktails and other suspicious devices when they arrested seven of them.

The officers discovered about 50 people, all in black, in the historic US customs house at around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, police said.

And a 25-year-old man was seen throwing a brick through the windows of a federal building and a courthouse just before 9 p.m., police said. He escaped with a 24-year-old man and two 23-year-old women, all of whom were arrested.

The damage to the building was estimated at about $ 3,000. Anti-police and anti-prison graffiti was scribbled on the walls, a sheriff’s van was defaced, and several windows were broken.

Three other people were also arrested in the area, a 25-year-old man and two women, ages 22 and 26. Police said the man was carrying a jar with a fuse that had “a strong, flammable odor” and a plastic container with white powder labeled “Fire Starter”.

The younger woman had bottles of liquids that had “a chemical odor,” they said.

“During a search incident at the arrest, they found numerous Molotov cocktails and some other devices that were not identified,” said Mike Cram, Kitchener police chief inspector.
